11.27.09 – NRHA FUTURITY BEGINS

Oklahoma City, OK – November 27, 2009 – While most people were having their fill of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) and its members kicked off their premier show and quenched their appetite for world-class Reining competition. The international sport of Reining welcomed the 2009 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show being held now through December 5 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.

The $1.9 Million show features the Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 5 when one entry is guaranteed a check for $125,000 as well as incredible prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and award sponsors. The NRHA / Cinch Non Pro Futurity offers an additional $120,000 in added money for non pro reiners. Today’s competition included the first go, first section of the NRHA Open Futurity.

Gunnatrashya and Shawn Flarida showed their prowess with a score of 225 for owner Arcese Quarter Horses USA to lead the Level 4 Open Futurity division. The three-year-old stallion is by Gunner and out of Natrasha. 23 Partnership’s Kaystein (Einstein x Kay Freckles) and Andrea Fappani marked a 223.5 earlier in the day and finished the section with the second highest score.

In the Level 3 Intermediate Open division, Lost In Tinseltown and Kim Diercks received a 222 to lead the division. Tim Anderson owns the Jacs Electric Spark mare out of Dun It In Tinseltown. With a 219, Whatta Royal Prince and Carol Metcalf marked a 219 for the second place spot in the section along with the lead in the Level 2 Limited Open division. Whatta Royal Prince is owned by Curran Farm. Nic Tuck, owned by Koby Kempel, was piloted by Yoav Sugar to a 219 which was good enough for third in the Level 3 Intermediate Open division, second in the Level 2 Limited Open division and first in the Level 1 Open division.

Michelle Cannon’s Shiners Nickle leads the Prime Time division with a 219. Todd Crawford was aboard the Shining Spark stallion. Reminic At Work and Tim McQuay follow with a 217.5 for owner David Silva, Sr.

The duo of Pistol Packn Rooster and Brian Bell lead the Open Gelding Incentive with a 219 for The Swell Syndicate. Kathy Bagnell’s Custom Crown scored right behind with a 216.5 with Don Boyd in the saddle.
