Due to the recent cases of equine piroplasmosis that are restricted to five counties in far southwest in Texas, Canada has restricted horses from Texas from crossing its border. Horses wishing to get papers to enter Canada are required by the USDA to be outside the state of Texas for 21 days. To comply with the new Canadian restrictions, horses leaving the state of Texas need an interstate health certificate signed by the issuing Texas veterinarian and be re-signed by an appropriate veterinarian in the state of destination. The horse must be located out of the state of Texas and have the destination veterinarian date the papers before November 12.
