12.06.08 – MCQUAY WINS ANOTHER NRHA FUTURITY

Oklahoma City, OK – December 6, 2008 – The 2008 National Reining Horse Association Open Futurity Finals packed the house at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This year’s riders understood that the $125,000 Championship purse and nearly $2 Million in cash and prizes were on the line. But because of unprecendented growth in entries, the winner’s share was actually $150,000 and about $2 Million The second section of the Open Futurity Finals started hot with draw three, The Great Tag and Cody Sapergia, marked a smoking 225.5. But fourteen runs later, Shining N Sassy and Tim McQuay brought down the house with a blistering score of 226.5.

Shining N Sassy, owned and bred by Carol Rose, is by Shining Spark and out of the Doc Olena mare Sassy O Lena. The sorrel mare and McQuay made quite a team giving McQuay his second NRHA Open Futurity Championship. His first win came in 1988 with Mr Melody Jac owned by Otto Schubert. It was an emotional night for the the McQuays and McCutcheons and for the connections with father and daughter winning the NRHA Open Futurity and Cinch / NRHA Non Pro Futurity in the same year. This is the first-time for a father and daughter to win these titles in the same year.
