Oklahoma City, OK – November 28, 2008 – The weather and mood at Oklahoma State Fair Park and the 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show stayed pleasant through the first two days of the event – and the leader board in the Open Futurity has remained unchanged, as well.Â

Although the competition came close to knocking down Thursday’s high scores in the First Go, 1st Section of the NRHA Open Futurity, they couldn’t budge the co-leaders – Chics Blazin Spark & Craig Schmersal and Shiny Hot Pants & Todd Crawford. Both Schmersal and Crawford marked a 221.5

NRHA One Million Dollar Rider Craig Schmersal marked the high score on Barry Waack’s Chics Blazin Spark (Jacs Electric Spark x HR Smart Little Sam). Crawford tied on Thursday riding Clinton Anderson’s Shiny Hot Pants (Shining Spark x Eyed Be A Princess).

Shiners Chic (Smart Chic Olena X Ebony Shines) and Brad Giesbrecht marked a 220 for owner Rosanne Sternberg of Aubrey, Texas to take the lead in the First Go, 1st Section of the Intermediate Open Division. Giesbrecht hails from Pilot Point, Texas. The duo also took the lead in the Open Gelding Incentive Division. Wimpys Little Olena (Wimpys Little Step x Stolmysurprise) and Gainesville, Texas‘ Don Boyd were right behind with a 216 in the Gelding Incentive. The Gelding is owned by Don Boyd and Rebecca Keller. The team of Magnum With A Dream (Magnum Chic Dream x Shine On Sayo) and owner Josh Visser of Whitesboro, Texas scored a 218.5 to move into second in the Intermediate Open standings.

Yesterday’s leader in the Limited Open Division, Miss Smokin Rose and Randall Dooley, moved to second as Charles Stinner’s A Cowgirls Money (Major Vaquero x Jesses Money) and Sebastian Petroll of Whitesboro, Texas tallied one point higher with a 213.

Open Prime Time competition had the last name of McQuay written all over it by the end of today’s competition. Tim McQuay rode the top three scoring horses in the standings with Jerry Kimmel’s Check Your Gun Lady (Dun Gotta Gun x Cee Blair Lady) and A Ruf Master (Lil Ruf Peppy x Shiners Mistress) tied for first with a 220. Carol Rose’s Shining And Sassy (Shining Spark x Sassy O Lena) and McQuay were right behind with the 219.5 that they scored yesterday. McQuay is from Tioga, Texas.

This weekend’s slate of Reining features tough competition, educational opportunities and heart-warming exchanges. Saturday includes Futurity highlights such as the Stacy Westfall Clinic – “Teaching Whoa” and “Basic Body Control.” The clinic begins at 11 a.m. in the Adequan Championship Arena. Admission for adults is $25 and youth (18 and under) admission is FREE.

Also scheduled for Saturday is the 4R Performance Horses Celebrity Slide, organized by the Reining Horse Sports Foundation, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oklahoma. The Celebrity Slide features a host of celebrities who will receive Reining tips from an all-star line up of NRHA Million Dollar Riders and top NRHA competitors – and their young friends from Make-A-Wish. The event starts at 7 p.m. with an autograph session and VIP reception following.Â
