11.20.08 – The 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show is Almost Here!

Thousands of NRHA reiners are ready to load up their horses and head to Oklahoma City for the biggest reining event of the year! The 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show kicks off, November 27 and runs through December 6 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The show includes the Open Futurity, Cinch Non Pro Futurity, plus Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship classes.

There are countless activities for exhibitors, spectators and horse enthusiasts during the show’s 10-day run. Read below to discover all the 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show has to offer you!

 Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner with your NRHA Family
The 2nd annual Thanksgiving Dinner, hosted by the Reining Horse Sports Foundation, will take place November 27 from 11 – 3 p.m. in the Barn 3 Sale Arena. The meal will feature roasted turkey, country ham, cornbread dressing and all the trimmings, plus a variety of desserts for $25/adult and $10/children 10 and under. Children under 2 are free. Tickets are available at the door – $40 for adults and $15 for children. Proceeds benefit the RHSF and reservations are requested. Stacy Westfall Clinic – Youth Get in Free
Go from ‘beginner to bridleless’ with Stacy Westfall at the Futurity. The Stacy Westfall Clinic will be held Saturday, November 29 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Adequan® Championship Arena. Westfall is the first and only woman to win the “Road to the Horse” Colt-Starting Challenge and legendary Freestyle competitor. All youth, 18 years old & under, will receive free admission – go to www.nrhya.com to get a free admission ticket. Adult tickets are available at the Oklahoma State Fair Box Office, www.nrha.com or at the door.

Bull Riders and Celebrities Buck Tradition
Be sure to attend the 4R Performance Horses Celebrity Slide, Saturday, November 29th at 7 p.m. Competing will be some of the world’s toughest professional bull riders, plus saddle-bronc riding great Billy Etbauer, Oklahoma City’s own national award-winning journalist Robin Marsh and Grammy Award-Winning singer/songwriter Lyle Lovett. The bull riding, rodeo, TV and music celebrities will trade their bull ropes, bronc reins and guitars for reiner finery as they test their skills on champion reining horses. Assisting will be several NRHA Professionals including NRHA Two Million and One Million Dollar Riders. Their young friends from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oklahoma will serve as honorary coaches. Also in attendance will be Freestyler Jason Richards, singer Lee Ann Hart and the Express Ranches Clydesdale Hitch. Order general admission tickets at www.nrha.com.

Cowboy Church
Join us for the Cowboy Worship Service with Russ Weaver and Susie McEntire Luchsinger, on Sunday, November 30 at 5 p.m. in the Sale Arena. It’s a non denominational church service and all are welcome to attend for fellowship with other reiners. Come and let your spirits be lifted and your hearts inspired by the hosts of Cowboy Church TV.

Come celebrate and enjoy the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show at the Exhibitor Party starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 30 in the Sale Arena. Horse Sales Galore
Don’t miss the NRHA/Markel Insurance Breeder’s Showcase Select, Marketplace and Futurity Prospect Sales on Thursday, December 4 – Saturday, December 6. The FIRST-EVER NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale Preview and Webcast will be held in the Coliseum on Thursday, December 4 following that day’s sale. The preview allows prospective bidders to watch horses under the lights of the main arena – in person and on the web.

High Caliber Competition at the FEI World Reining Masters

18 Nations, 22 Top Riders, 22 Quality Reining Horses = 1 Night of High Caliber Competition!  The FEI World Reining Masters is set for Thursday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. It is definitely one of the “must-see” events during the Futurity & NAAC Show. There are reiners from Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland and the USA. This International event is brought to you by the FEI, NRHA, AQHA, Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.

$30,000 for NRHA Futurity Geldings
A total of $30,000 is up for grabs at the 2008 NRHA Futurity in the Open and Cinch Non Pro Gelding Incentive Divisions. $20,000 in added money is offered in the Open Futurity division, while $10,000 in added money is available in the Cinch Non Pro Futurity division. Five places will be paid in each in the Open and in the Cinch Non Pro divisions.

World-Class Freestylers to Perform at the Futurity

The NRHA has lined up a group of the absolute BEST Freestyle riders in the nation for a very special performance on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m.!  Some will perform bridleless, some saddleless, but all with music, lots of laughs and maybe a few tears along the way!

Quarter Horse News Pre-Sale Breakfast
Make sure you start off the day right, and stop by the Quarter Horse News Pre-Sale Breakfast on Saturday, December 6 at 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. right before the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale. NRHA Corporate Partner, Quarter Horse News, will provide breakfast for sale-goers just outside of the Sale Arena.

Performance Horse Rookie of the Year
Don’t miss the best Rookie competition of the year – the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year Class! The class kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 6 in the Coliseum. Each horse and rider combination competed hard all year to qualify from their respective North American Affiliate Championship Show. Come root for them in the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year Class.

Support NRHYA
The NRHyA will hold its annual Stallion Breeding Auction before the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale on Saturday, December 6 at 10 a.m. This year’s auction list includes Smart Chic Olena, Wimpys Little Step, Rowdy Yankee, Nic It In The Bud and Jac Daniels Neat.

Also benefiting the NRHyA is an auction of a life-size, custom-painted fiberglass reining horse statue donated by Don Theisen and Gary Oswald. The 100% waterproof statue will withstand extreme temperatures from 100° to -0°. The artists will create a custom piece for the winning bidder. Stop by the show to see a sample of this amazing work of art.

Get the Fever – NRHyA Silent Auction
Get the fever for the NRHyA Silent Auction. The NRHyA will once again host the auction during the 2008 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship Show. The Silent Auction will be located on the West Concourse of the Coliseum with more items than ever. Be sure to get your bid in on unique items donated from NRHA Professionals, show vendors and local businesses. The auction will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. All proceeds will benefit NRHyA.

Be sure to buy your tickets to win the 2008 NRHyA Raffle horse – Lenas Betty Doc (Shiners Lena Doc x Betty Dun It), a 2007 AQHA Sorrel filly graciously donated by Carol Rose. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from NRHyA members at the 2008 NRHA Futurity Show and online. Be sure to look at the pictures and video of Lenas Betty Doc on the web, too. The drawing will be held Saturday, December 6 and you don’t have to be present to win. All proceeds will benefit the NRHyA.

Calling All Youth
The NRHyA will host its annual meeting and NRHYA Officer Elections on Saturday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the Youth Meeting Room on the West Concourse of the Coliseum. There are lots of great candidates making their bid to represent NRHyA, and they’ll be there to earn your vote. Come hungry – lunch will be provided for NRHyA members!

The online auction provides pictures, pedigrees, links to stallion’s web sites, bid history and more to help you pick the right stallion for your breeding program. As an added bonus, the resulting offspring from purchased breedings receive reduced fees when entering the NRHA Futurity and Derby at three-, four-, five- and six- years of age.
