Oklahoma City, OK – November 26, 2007 – NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider and Multiple NRHA Futurity and Derby Champion Shawn Flarida dominated the Second Go-Round, 1st Section of the NRHA Open Futurity. The competition is heating up at the 2007 NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, OK.
Flarida, of Springfield, OH, scored a 230 on RC Fancy Step owned by Mark Schols & Jimmy Pierce. The next highest score in the Second Go, 1st Section was a 226 by Cody Sapergia, of Ardmore, OK. Sapergia rode JDS Shining Image, owned by Lance Griffin, of De Winton, AB Canada.
The high score in the second go-round in the Intermediate Open division was marked by Bill Norwood, of Temecula, CA. The 2003 Intermediate Open Derby Co-Reserve Champion scored a 223 on Wright In Tune owned by Craig Casher, of Temecula, CA.
Robin Schoeller, of Springfield, OH, is leading the second go of the Limited Open Division. Schoeller scored a 219.5 on Wimpys Pinesail owned by Charles Vaughan, of Lafayette, IN.
Multiple Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Champion Kelle Smith is the leader in the second section of the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity go-round. Smith, of Belle Center, OH, scored a 221 on her Taka Ticket.
Josh Hattig, a multiple Non Pro Derby and Cinch Non Pro Futurity Champion, remains the leader in the Intermediate Non Pro division. Hattig, of Frederick, CO, scored a 219 in the first section of the go on Dudes Whippersnapper owned by Brad Hattig, of Berthoud, CO.
The high score in standings of the Limited Non Pro division is Lindsey McCutcheon of Whitesboro, TX. She scored a 215 on Sweet Mega Brown, owned by Scott and Kathy McCutcheon, also of Whitesboro, TX.
There’s a new leader in the Youth Non Pro Futurity. Carlie McKinzie, of East Wenatchee, WA, scored a 215.5 on Almond Bark Chic, owned by George and Cindy McKinzie also of East Wenatchee, WA. McKinzie is the 2006 Intermediate Non Pro Derby Co-Reserve Champion.
Tuesday’s competition at the NRHA Futurity includes the Second Go-Round, Section 3 of the Open Futurity and the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity continues with Section 3 of the go.
The NRHA Futurity is the place to be for impressive reining competition. Highlights ahead in the event include spectacular international reining in the FEI World Reining Masters 2007 on Thursday evening, November 29. Don’t miss the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Finals beginning Friday afternoon, November 30. Later Friday evening will be a special Invitational Freestyle event featuring many past freestyle reining champions.
Saturday, December 1, will be a day chock full of exciting events including the Performance Horse Rookie of the Year, a special clinic with Stacy Westfall presented by Horse & Rider magazine, the Champagne Brunch with Legends, the NRHA/Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect sale, and the Elite Trailer Sweepstakes. All leading up to the main event! The Open Futurity Finals where one rider will be awarded a check for $125,000 at the end of the night.
